Better than a schoolyard structure!
Bicycle playgrounds are an excellent way to get learners outside and exploring their abilities on bikes. If you’d like to add one in your community, use this document to explain the concept. This document contains live links and videos and other content, for use in digital format.
WHAT IS A BICYCLE PLAYGROUND?
It’s a collection of skills based bike-optimised features that allow learners to explore their abilities. As they negotiate the structures, they improve their balance, coordination, strength and bike handling skills in a repeatable environment that allows them to experience, discover, and grow. Outdoor activities have been proven to improve mental health in people of all ages. This type of play benefits learners with free-form, unscripted activity.
Who can use it?
A thoughtfully designed bicycle playground includes a variety of options for different skill levels, which can be used by kids on balance bikes as well as pedal bikes. Teens and adults can also enjoy laps on the skills features as they look to improve bike handling skills. It’s an excellent addition to any community park, bike park or skatepark, allowing community members to gather and spend time together.
