IMBA Canada 2025-2030 Strategic Plan

Dear IMBA Canada Members, Partners, and Friends,

As we begin 2026, we’re excited to share IMBA Canada’s new Strategic Plan for 2025–2030 — a roadmap for how we’ll grow, connect, and strengthen Canada’s trail communities over the next five years.

This plan represents more than goals — it’s a commitment to transparency, connection, facilitation, and resource sharing. We want to show you who’s behind IMBA, what drives us, and how we’re working to make mountain biking accessible, inclusive, and sustainable nationwide.

We’re also rebuilding our relationships — with clubs, municipalities, Indigenous partners, and volunteers across Canada. IMBA Canada exists because of you, and we want to listen, collaborate, and support your work.

How you can get involved:

  • Join or renew your membership (for clubs and individuals)

FAQ's of IMBA Canada's 2025-2030 Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan 2025–2030 is IMBA Canada’s roadmap for strengthening trail communities across the country. It outlines our priorities for transparency, connection, facilitation, and resource sharing, and sets clear goals for governance, membership support, fundraising, partnerships, advocacy, and trail development.

Over the last few years, IMBA Canada entered a period of renewal. We heard from clubs and partners that they wanted clearer communication, more support, and a stronger national presence. The new plan was developed to rebuild trust, modernize our governance, and ensure we can better serve the needs of Canada’s diverse trail organizations and riders.

The new plan was created and inspired by the 2024 IMBA Canada Board of Directors with support from staff and subject-matter experts. It reflects extensive input from the community and is rooted in the lived experiences of riders, volunteers, Indigenous partners, and advocates. We also want to thank Trans Canada Trails for their financial contribution and support in creating this Strategic Plan through their Organization Capacity Building Grant.

The plan is designed to support:

  • Trail users of all ages and abilities
  • Member clubs and trail associations
  • Municipalities and land managers
  • Trail builders and consultants
  • Indigenous communities and partners

In short, anyone who values safe, accessible, sustainable trails while mountain biking in Canada.

The plan is built around three major goals:

  1. Strengthen IMBA Canada’s governance and sustainability
  2. Support and empower member clubs, volunteers, and communities
  3. Promote and advance trail development, maintenance, and access across Canada

Each goal includes detailed strategies, actions, and measurable outcomes.

Implementation begins in early 2026, with key milestones taking place annually through 2030. Progress updates, policies, financial statements, and reports will be published regularly so members can follow along.

IMBA Canada serves the entire country. Our work will be national in scope but deeply connected to regional needs. Through townhalls, club visits, and partnerships, we aim to rebuild relationships in every province and territory.

Members and partners told us clearly that transparency builds trust. As part of the plan, IMBA Canada will publicly share our strategic plan, bylaws, financial statements, policies, annual reports, and progress updates so that everyone knows how decisions are made and how resources are used.

The plan introduces:

  • New resources and templates (governance, risk management, event planning, advocacy)
  • Training and workshops for clubs and volunteers
  • Support connecting clubs with municipalities and land stewards
  • Easier access to information through a new resource hub
  • Future opportunities for grants, awards, and collaborations
