On June 16th, 2012, IMBA Canada will participate in the National Urban Learn-to Camp Event presented by Parks Canada and Mountain Equipment Co-op in Toronto’s Rouge Park. Glen Rouge Campground will host 150 new campers where they will be taught the basics of how to plan and enjoy a successful camping trip. Mountain biking is also on the lesson plan!
Teaming up with Joyride 150 Indoor Bike Park, the Guelph Off-Road Bicycling Association (GORBA) and the Durham Mountain Biking Association, IMBA will offer participants the opportunity to hop on a bike and ride some specially designed trail features. Staff from all organizations will be present to support many first time riders as they get a taste of mountain biking.
In addition to riding a mountain bike, participants at Learn-to Camp in Toronto will have the opportunity to take part in many different activities including workshops such as “how to set up a tent” and “camp cooking”, aboriginal teepee and sweat lodge tours, guided hikes, and campfire interpretation. With multiple Learn-to Camp locations across Canada, this initiative will promote Parks Canada’s camping experiences and other activities available at Parks Canada to families with young children and new Canadians.
