The IMBA Canada Tool Trailer was truly a one-of-a-kind program when it was first offered in the province of Ontario for 2009.  Staff saw the need for a mobile source of trail building equipment that could be made available for sustainable trail building workshops, and affiliated mountain bike club trail days.  The initial funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion’s “Trails for Life” grant, in partnership with the City of Toronto Natural Environment Trails Program, and Sustainable Trails Ltd., helped to build the Tool Trailer to be able to support up to a 40-person crew.  Armed with a diverse complement of tools, from pulaskis and mcleods, to shovels, rakes and loppers, the Tool Trailer provided all the equipment that was necessary to help construct sustainable and fun trails.

During its years of service, the program supported over a hundred trail days and workshops, and not surprisingly the concept also served as the model for many clubs and organisations to build their own “Tool Trailer”.  If success can be measured in the number of copies of the design, then the program provided a major benefit for many clubs and organizations in developing their own mobile tool inventory.  During the last few seasons however, the requests for use of the Tool Trailer diminished, as clubs had their own equipment to draw from, and even many land managers developed their own tool complement to support volunteer trail days.  With the realization that the program has reached and met its goals over the years, IMBA Canada will now focus its efforts on other opportunities.

A very heart-felt thank you to everyone that supported the program, worked alongside IMBA Canada staff, affiliated club members, and land managers to help build sustainable trails throughout Ontario!
