While we were in Vernon, we had the pleasure of meeting and riding with Silver Star Bike Park’s team of trail builders, led by Cameron Sorensen. Not only did this team of stand up guys come to our trailbuilding school on their day off and put shovel to dirt for our volunteer build, they offered to take me out for a tour of Silver Star’s trails before opening weekend.

Before setting out, Cam explained to Rach and I their trail network philosophy. It focuses on providing a wide variety of progressive trails which will stand up to dry weather conditions and high ridership. This progression is evident at first glace of the map with the amount of green and blue runs, and variety of trail types; from flowy jumps to technical and challenging. According to the website, the bike park offers 15% beginner trails, 40% intermediate, and 45% difficult runs.

We had the opportunity to ride at Silver Star a number of times and enjoyed it each time. What impressed us the most was the high diversity of ridership, including a very strong female contingent. Nursing an injured knee, Rachael was bummed she couldn’t ride more!

Huge thanks to the team at Silver Star for showing us a great time. We always enjoy learning from other professional trail builders and seeing what new, innovative things they are up to! If it’s not already, Silver Star Bike Park, along with the Okanagan area in general, should be on your list of riding destinations.
