This past weekend saw our second Trail Care Crew Workshop of the year take place in Chilliwack, BC with the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association (FVMBA).  The workshop saw 12 eager participants with varying degrees of previous build experience attend and all were eager to learn and put in some great work using new techniques learned during the in-class portion. This workshop was also the first in a series of workshops put on in partnership with the BC Enduro Series; which will see Trail Care Crew workshops taking place at certain stops throughout the race series, working with the local clubs to help strengthen their mountain bike community and local trails!.

The project had participants working on Vedder Mountain, a popular destination for riders in the area and location for next weekend’s BC Enduro Series stop in the Fraser Valley. Kerry’d Away was the site of the project and is the newest climbing trail that many riders use to access the trails located at the top of the mountain. As the popularity of enduro style riding and events grows as well as the fact that many riders want to earn their turns, many trail networks are designing and building climbing trails to allow riders the ability to ride instead of shuttling to the top.

This project took a look at a particularly steep and technical climbing turn. With a little redesign volunteers were able to construct a new turn that maintains its technicality while being a little more forgiving for the riders and more sustainable without the steep grade. Given the amount of traffic the trail will see not only in next weekend’s race, but throughout the season it was a great location to work on and the finished product turned out fantastic.

We would like to thank the FVMBA for their hospitality and for hosting us. A big thanks as well to all the fantastic volunteers who came out for a great workshop!
