A huge congratulations to the Turkey Point Mountain Bike Club (TPMBC) for acquiring a $30000 Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Grant, a monumental achievement after officially forming the club only one year ago.

The TPMBC have a 43 km network of trails in Turkey Point Provincial Park and a Ministry of Natural Resources property (managed by St. Williams Conservation Reserve Community Council) that they oversee under a MOU (memorandum of understanding).

For those that have been fortunate enough to ride in the area, they already know how good these trails are and the grant will be used to enhance this trail network even further.  Signs are going to be erected at various locations, along with trail markers, to guide cyclists and other trail users through the network of trails.  Several bridges will also be reconstructed across a creek that runs through the area, replacing previous structures with better and more sustainable designs.

Another OTF grant to the Long Point Region Conservation Authority (LPRCA) and a collaborative of other organizations, will see further marketing and tourism initiatives for  “Explore Norfolk Trails”, be messaged through multiple channels, including a dedicated website to encourage people to come and visit Norfolk County and all it has to offer.

If 2012 is a sign of some great things for the TPMBC, 2013 is going to be a stellar year and I can’t wait to visit again!

Cheers,

Igor Hoogendoorn
