Chad and Deanne were ecstatic to learn that they would be in Winnipeg, Manitoba for Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on October 2, 2010. Deanne became involved with the Kids of Mud program about ten years ago when she first started riding and racing. Teaching kids how to ride became her passion and even though she now considers herself to be a trailbuilder, she still has a soft spot for teaching kids.

The event was being hosted at the Forks National Historic Site where the Red and Assiniboine rivers   meet. After a pretty wet summer, they were fortunate enough to have sunny, blue skies on the day of the event. 15 kids and about 20 young-at-heart adults showed up for the event. They linked together all the trails that stayed high and dry for a group ride. There was an obstacle course for the kids to practice skills, games, prizes and a tasty BBQ. As things were wrapping up one little girl asked Deanne “Can we do this again tomorrow?”

A special thanks to JF Ravenelle and the crew from Gord’s Cycle & Ski for organizing the event, providing ride leaders and ordering sun. A thank you goes out to Moni Robertson of Kids of Mud for bringing out the obstacles. Special thanks to Jennifer Burnell, the special event coordinator at

Forks Historic Site for helping us with permits and allowing us to host the event at the Forks. And a final thank you to Jim from the Manitoba Recreation Trails Association for taking care of the BBQ. We’re looking forward to returning to the ‘Peg next year!
