Earlier this month, ShortHills Cycling Club presented a cheque for $11,000 to Ontario Parks, for trail work done in Short Hills Provincial Park during 2011.
This is a great example of how to promote your club and its achievements, and also to quantify your value and commitment to the environment, and the community at large.
According to imaginecanada.com’s Volunteer Value Calculator, trail building and maintenance is valued at $14.79 per hour in Canada. Track your club’s volunteer person hours, and at the end of each year make sure to calculate your in-kind donation to your local land owner or land manager. Make it an annual event to announce your club’s contribution, and invite the press!
