Toronto receives its’ first official pumptrack.
Last Saturday saw IMBA Canada’s resident Trail Solutions consultant, Daniel Scott, back at the Bayview Bike Park in northern Toronto. Unlike the two workshops in the past though, this time Daniel was working with a relative new comer to the Ontario bike park scene – Ontario Bike Park Construction. Mike Hession, owner of OBPC, was keen to show the skills he has developed over 20 years of road and BMX track construction and was kind enough to donate a week’s worth of machine time and expertise to install one of Lee McCormack’s pumptrack designs, "Pumptopia", at the Bayview Bike Park. Mike even hired on Capilano University MBO graduate Nick Outram to help with the construction.
The task for the Saturday build day was the help clean up many of the loose debris piles still scattered throughout the site (largely due to a few rainy days delaying Mike’s progress), hand tune the rollers and berms and paint the back wall of the arena.
While a hot one, the gang from YU Revolutions and a handful of other volunteers toiled throughout the morning to get the pumptrack near completion before switching over to painting the wall and test riding the track in the afternoon.
On top of all the fun that can be had with the new pumptrack, work is underway to pursue further enhance / revitalization of the Bayview Bike Park with IMBA Canada’s Trail Solutions assisting in this venture. Stay tuned as things develop in the fall.
