Sunday May 27th, the day that Ryder Hesjedal won the Giro d’Italia (the first Canadian to do so!), his hometown of Victoria was abuzz with excitement. Watching Ryder win inspired cyclists of all types and ages to get on their bikes and get outside for a ride. This lead many of the attendees to the Cecelia Ravine Bike Park where the MEC Bikefest was being hosted.

James Brown, our BC representative and Deanne Lazaruk, our Trail Care Crew Coordinator were in attendance all day to represent IMBA. We brought along our mashed potato platter and let kids build the trail of their dreams. We chatted with the local riding community about Take a Kid Mountain Biking day, local trail issues, great legal riding areas and introduced many people to IMBA for the first time. It also allowed us to network with many other great cycling organizations within our community. Deanne also spent time riding with kids in the bike park and encouraging parents to try out the trails too.
